Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

MEM09209 - Detail bearings, seals and other componentry in mechanical drawings

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Determine job requirements

  1. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  2. Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  3. Identify job requirements from available information
  4. Determine purpose and scope for drawing and identify and address further information needs
  5. Determine project consultation requirements
  6. Identify and prepare equipment, organisational files, templates and symbols required to complete work

Prepare detail drawing

  1. Lay out drawing in accordance with the sketches and specifications
  2. Apply line work in accordance with standard industry drawing practice
  3. Produce detail and assembly drawings containing engineering bearings and mechanical seals, applying general tolerances
  4. Produce detail drawings requiring sizing and tolerancing of keys and keyways
  5. Produce detail drawings containing shafts and holes and fully tolerance to suit particular class of fit
  6. Produce detail drawings of engineering components applying geometric tolerances to the shape
  7. Apply surface texture finishes to detail drawings
  8. Present drawing according to organisational requirements
